Pop icon Miley Cyrus is opening up about the emotional journey of helping her family heal after what she describes as a “really difficult, dark decade.”
In a candid conversation on the latest episode of Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky, the 32-year-old singer shared rare insights into the challenges her family faced—particularly after years of tension surrounding her parents’ tumultuous relationship, which ultimately ended in divorce in 2022.
“At one point, half of my family wasn’t even speaking to each other,” Miley revealed, according to Daily Mail. Rather than turning to traditional therapy, which she described as “too chaotic to even coordinate,” she opted for a more unconventional approach to healing: emotional decluttering.
“We’re so messy, we didn’t even do any of that,” she joked, referring to formal counseling. “I just busted through the pile… ‘I’m here, you’re here, let’s have a good time,’” Miley explained. By creating space for joy and reconnection before diving into deep emotional conversations, she found a way to help her family reestablish communication and trust.
The Flowers singer also admitted to feeling an intense sense of loyalty toward her mother, Tish Cyrus, while recognizing how unresolved issues had quietly built up over the years. “I saw firsthand what happens when things are ignored and stacked up,” she said, reflecting on the importance of facing emotional baggage head-on.
Today, Miley says that much of the silence and emotional distance within the family has faded, replaced by a renewed sense of closeness.
Her story is a reminder that healing doesn’t always come from a traditional route — sometimes, it begins with simply showing up, breaking the ice, and choosing connection over conflict.
